Haryana sugar mills to crush more cane

Sugar mills in Haryana are expected to crush around 400 lakh quintal of cane this year, up from 264 lakh quintal of cane crushed during the last season. Sugar mills in cooperative and private sector will crush around 200 lakh quintal of cane each.

Haryanas additional cane commissioner CP Malik told FE that the cooperative sugar mills are expected to produce over 36 lakh quintal of sugar at an expected overall recovery of 9.5%. Sharing details about the production Malik said, The production of sugarcane in the last crushing season of 2009-10 was recorded to be 533 lakh quintal, out of which 264 lakh quintal was crushed in the sugar mills. Around 24 lakh quintal of sugar was produced out of it. In the current season of 2010-11 the production is likely to go upto 600 lakh quintal out of which approximately 400 lakh quintal will be crushed in the sugar mills.

Till date 10 cooperative sugar mills in the state have produced 11.93 lakh quintal of sugar by crushing 155.60 lakh quintal of sugarcane till date as against merely 5.19 lakh quintal of sugar produced during the same period last year. While stating this a spokesman of the Haryana State Federation of Cooperative Sugar Mills said that Shahbad sugar mill recorded the highest crushing of 28.11 lakh quintal.
