Haryana, Maryland county sign cooperation pact

The Haryana government and Prince Georges County-Maryland signed a joint declaration of cooperation at the International Economic Summit in Maryland, USA on Wednesday.

While Haryana finance minister, Birender Singh signed on behalf of the government, Jack B Johnson signed on behalf of the County and it was witnessed by senator John A Giannetti Jr.

The declaration of cooperation aims at taking up joint research projects with Maryland University systems and other institutions of higher learning. The areas to be covered would include computer science, software engineering, biological science, bio-technology and nano-technology.

The area of education would include faculty-student exchange programme, syllabus upgradation and joint research projects. They would encourage, develop and expand joint activities, programmes and ventures of mutual benefit and exchange ideas in fields of mutual interest in public and private sectors.

They would also participate in economic development programmes. They would recognise the special significance of trade, tourism, science and technology, education, sister city relations and foreign trade zones. They both would strengthen their ties and develop relations for the mutual benefit of people of Prince Georges County and Haryana state.
