A half-yearly review of UPAs flagship programme National Rural Health Mission, an effective implementation of NRHM in letter and spirit, Cabinet approval and subsequent implementation of National Urban Health Mission, expediting construction of the six new AIIMS and production ofnew vaccines would be some of the areas to be addressed on a priority basis by the new health minister, Ghulam Nabi Azad, who assumed charge on Friday.

I have decided to take a half yearly review of the programme with all the state governments so thatNRHM is implemented fully, Azad said.

Azad said that National Urban Health Mission, conceptualised during last UPA regime would belaunched and pursued with utmost seriousness after a Cabinet nod. Underlining the significance of the mission, Azad said the urban population is growing rapidly and urban health care infrastructure is unable tokeep pace with growing demand.
