For simple operations, the state is launching a Dealer Accounting Software (DAS) tool based website (www.commercialtax.gujarat.gov.in) for Vat dealers.
The software would be available as a free-ware and can be downloaded by any registered dealers in order to maintain their business records and filing of Vat returns.
It will help dealers prepare sales invoice, stock register and sales purchase register on their own. Dealers registered with central sales tax (CST), and having a tax identification number (TIN) can use this application.
Briefing mediapersons state finance minister Saurabh Patel informed that Vat would eliminate double taxation of present system, reduce tax rates on many goods, and would put greater emphasis on self-assessment by dealers. Vat is beneficial to Gujarat particularly as it is a manufacturing state, he said.
