ONGC chairman RS Sharma, who is retiring today, has already got his farewell gift. ONGC has just put India on the global map of shale gas by making the first-ever discovery of the unconventional fuel. This is no ordinary achievement. Only the US and Canada were in this league earlier. India is the first country in Asia to discover shale gas. Sharma could not have asked for a better parting gift.
... and good luck
But would Oil India chairman Nayan Mani Borah be as lucky as Sharma when he leaves his office next year After all, ONGC and Oil India have been the twin pillars of the national campaign for oil and gas exploration. The two companies have a lot more in common than their government ownership. Borah, who is a dynamic personality by all accounts, has still more than a year of his tenure as Oil India chairman left. We wish him all the success.
