Come 2010 and Indian bike enthusiasts will have another good reason to celebrate. Yamaha, which already sells superbikes like the YZF-R1, Vimax and MT-01 in India, is all set to introduce to them their icon: Valentino Rossi. He will be brought for the forthcoming Auto Expo beginning on January 5 in the Capital.

Rossi, an Italian professional motorcycle racer and multiple MotoGP world champion, will be at Yamahas booth at the Auto Expo on January 9. He is one of the highest-earning sports personalities of all time, an eight-time world champion and has won 97 races. Rossi rides for Yamaha Motor GP.

Yamaha may introduce a limited edition Yamaha YZF-R1 Valentino Rossi replica. Apart from having all the numbers and doctor logos, it will be autographed by the star himself on the fuel tank. This limited edition is part of the tribute to his outstanding achievements in the field of motorcycle racing. The model is priced over the existing YZF-R1, which costs around Rs 12.5 lakh.

A Yamaha India spokesperson could not be contacted for further details. Yamaha India was the first to break into the completely built unit sportsbike craze in India with its 2007 model YZF-R1 and sports cruiser MT-01 in 2008.

The cross-plane crankshaft endears the new R1 with an uneven firing order, unlike conventional in-line four cylinder engines, which enhances the torque spread and makes it more even. That apart, it boasts several other features such as an all-new frame and a drive-selector switch on the handlebar, which lets the rider select the amount of power going to the rear wheel.
