The government has reiterated its commitment to recapitalising the ailing cooperative banks. It has also urged the cooperatives to gear up to face the challenges of a globalised economy.

The Integrated Cooperative Development Project (ICDP) will be further expanded in the remaining years of the 10th Plan with support from the government.

Addressing the national conference of state secretaries, registrars and top executives of cooperatives on Wednesday, Union agriculture secretary Ms Radha Singh said that the national common minimum programme (NCMP) adopted by the UPA government had called for nursing back the ailing cooperative credit structure to health with a view to doubling the credit flow to the farm sector in the next three years.
