City-based Globsyn Group, which is launching a certificate and diploma course on how to run family run businesses, will undertake an extensive research project targetting at least 1,000 family businesses in the next six months across India.

Among all Indian businesses, around 60-70% is family run and we want to focus on enabling the entrepreneurial growth of family firms and fostering a deep understanding of unique challenges and opportunities being faced by family-run businesses, especially in the SME sector, said Bikram Dasgupta, chairman and CEO of Globsyn Group, here on Tuesday.

The certificate course will start from November in the Kolkata campus and the diploma course will be launched from June 2010 both here and in Ahmedabad. We will start the certificate courses essentially with 15-20 students mainly for SMEs, said Dasgupta.

The group has forged alliances with some renowned UK and US-based institutes for consultancy.

We also plan to open centres in Philippines, Indonesia and Malaysia to conduct courses on family business in the next 3-5 years, Dasgupta said.
