GenomiK Plans Software Facility In Hyderabad

With bioinformatics gradually becoming indispensable in drug discovery, US-based GenomiK Design Pharmaceuticals (GKDP) plans to set up an exclusive facility for development of software tools in Hyderabad. Initially, the company proposes to develop tools which will assist in designing new compounds for drugs to treat cancer, diabetes and AIDS.

GKDP director Dr M Rami Reddy said, We are setting up this facility at an initial cost of Rs 42 crore for pre-clinical trials of drugs developed for cancer, diabetes and AIDS.

The APIDC-Venture Fund has offered Rs 22 crore to part-finance the project while the company will pitch in with the rest, he added.

The company is yet to identify the land for the purpose. The facility will have an exclusive laboratory, animal house for testing and research and development centre for developing unique modules, he said.
