Snapdeal, another e-commerce major, ran a campaign on the very day teasing Flipkarts Big Billion Day, saying: For others its a big day. For us, today is no different. Amazon, not to be left behind, went ahead and reportedly bought the bigbillionday.com domain, so that anyone who typed Big Billion Day on a search engine got directed to Amazons India homepage! In fact, a Facebook joke doing the rounds thus goes: The most amazon thing about flipkart is that before you could, somebody else snaps the deal.
Coming back to gadget-makers, they are betting big on the festive season and some are even anticipating a double-digit jump in sales. If you watch television often, you might have noticed an increase in the number of advertisements appearing on TV especially those of consumer electronics companies launching new devices and schemes. Indeed, the festive spirit is in the air and it is that time of the year when we Indians love to splurge. Further, a stable government as the Centre has ensured a rise in market sentiment. While we have many players in the consumer electronics business but there are some big names that most people flock to during a festive season.
Take Samsung. The consumer electronics major has introduced promotional offers on home appliances and audio-visual products. These include assured gifts, instant cash-back, free installation and special service schemes. Ranjivjit Singh, senior vice-president, Corporate Marketing, South West Asia, Samsung Electronics, says that the company is expecting to clock incremental sales during this festive season. With a host of celebratory offers and schemes across our product portfolio, the end of the third quarter and the beginning of the fourth quarter accounts for 40% of our annual business in the consumer electronics segment. We are offering complimentary gifts such as free tablets with premium Samsung Smart TVs. During this high footfall period, we have also deployed additional manpower and trained our entire workforce across our retail network to give world-class brand experience to our customers, he says. He also adds that Samsung has been witnessing encouraging growth across its portfolio in consumer durables, surpassing the industry growth rate. We are expecting further increase in our market share this festive season.
LG Electronics recently announced the launch of the first-ever 360-degree brand campaign around the theme of Celebrating World 1st Technologies by LG, highlighting its vast product portfolio. The company, which is targeting 35% growth during the festive season, is offering free gifts such as a 500 GB HDD with 4K movie, and benefits such as instant cash-back, free extended warranty and various combi offers. Sony India, too, has come out with freebies for those who purchase its Bravia TVs or its Alpha range of cameras. For example, customers buying Bravia TVs can win pen drives, headphones, Blu-Ray players or even the Smartwatch 2. And customers purchasing Sony Alpha cameras can get lenses, carrying cases or memory cards.
Coming to mobile phones, Microsoft Devices (Nokia) has introduced the Lumia smart cash-back offer. Under this pan-India offer, customers buying the Lumia 630 will get a guaranteed cash-back of Rs 1,501 and those buying the Lumia 530 will get a cash-back of Rs 1,001. Additionally, few lucky ones also stand to win the full cash-back if they buy either of these devices.

Gionee, which recently introduced yet another fashionable budget smartphone, the CTRL V4S, in India, has released its festive brand campaign that reflects its growth in the country. Arvind Vohra, India head, Gionee Smartphones, says, With the new brand campaign we want to reach out to our existing as well as potential consumers this festive season and convey the message on the rapid growth of Gionee in India. We feel the festive season is the best time to showcase our achievements. We are now looking at more consumers shifting to using Gionee this festive season. Gionee has already sold over 3 million handsets in India since its inception in March 2013, and is offering the new CTRL V4S with an interesting feature called Hotknot, which allows two phones to exchange photos and videos in an instant as long as the two screens are put together.
HP India has also come out with a range of offers this season. The company has bundled its products with additional two-year onsite warranty, one-year McAfee internet security subscription worth Rs 1,399, gift vouchers from Myntra worth R2,000, and 12 movie tickets from BookMyShow worth Rs 3,000. Similarly, Dell is offering gifts on the purchase of Inspiron notebooks and desktops, XPS laptops, Alienware, and Dell Venue tablets. These offers are valid on purchases made till October 26.
Ricoh India is offering a free powerbank this Diwali with the purchase of Ricoh laser printers and multifunctional printers from Ricoh e-store. For this year, the festive offer is available with Ricoh SP printer series starting from Rs 6,990 which includes both single function and multifunctional printers. Customers can avail of this offer till October-end.
While most of these offers will last till the month-end, the festivities for the consumers should continue even beyond Diwali. Watch out for the Great Online Shopping Festival (GOSF), expected to happen in December.
