Freight rates for the 9-tonne payload from Mumbai to other states have firmed up as corporates are rushing to transit their stocks before the financial year-end ie. March 31.

Truck rates are likely to firm up in the coming week as there is higher demand across the country as cargo movement may increase further, said transporters.

According to leading transporters, during March-end, there is always higher demand from the corporates. Last week, freight rates from Mumbai to cities like Surat, Ahemdabad, Baroda, Delhi and Jaipur increased in a range of Rs 500-1,000.

However, rates to most of the western states marked a minimal fall. Meanwhile, once again the Maharashtra government has filed a writ petition in the Supreme Court against the Mumbai high court order dated March 3, 2004.
