Of the 14 companies, which had evinced interest in building the 660×2, 1320-mw Karchchna mega power project in Allahabad, four have finally submitted their request for proposal (RFP) to the Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation here on Friday.
The companies are Adani, Reliance Power, Japyee group and Lanco. The evaluation committee was judging the technical bids till the time of filing the report. Speaking to FE, UPPCL MD, Avneesh Awasthi said the financial bids would be opened in a week?s time. It may be mentioned that KSK Energy, Indiabulls, Jaypee group, HDIL Energy, Bhushan Steel, Videocon, Lanco, GVK, Adhunik, Adani, JSW, L&T, CESC and Reliance Energy had submitted their request for qualification on September 1. This is the third time the Mayawati government has invited tenders for setting up of mega power plant in Karchchna. The earlier two bids did not bear any fruit as the government felt the bids were very high. In order to attract lower bids, the government had come up with certain incentives for the developers, giving them an opportunity to make good the losses they would make in providing cheap power to the state government.
Apart from Karchchna, the 660×3 1980-mw Bara mega power project, also in Allahabad, is yet to clear its RFP from Uttar Pradesh Electricity Regulatory Commission (UPERC) and awaits clearance from the Central Electricity Authority (CEA). The state regulatory body has written to the CEA seeking its permission as to whether a multi-purpose transmission line can be erected for the Bara project.
