The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Sunday described the constitution of National Advisory Council (NAC) by the UPA government as unconstitutional and said there is no provision in the Constitution for such a body.

There is no provision in the Constitution for the National Advisory Council and its constitution under the chairmanship of Sonia Gandhi is unconstitutional, BJP national vice-president and MP Thavarchand Gehlot told reporters here.

It appears that the way the Congress ministers are showing all the important files to Ms Gandhi, she is acting like a super prime minister, side-stepping Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, especially in the media, Mr Gehlot alleged.

Taking a dig at the internal contradictions of the UPA on the issue of disinvestment in key sectors like telecom, petroleum and insurance among others, Mr Gehlot said it (UPA) is neither united, nor progressive and not even an alliance.

Criticising the decision to enhance the income-tax limit in the Union budget to Rs 1 lakh, he said it will not benefit majority of the people paying tax.
