Food inflation coming down: Cabinet secy
The Centre on Tuesday said the food inflation has been coming down with prices of pulses and vegetables declining and and rates of other edible items gradually stabilising. Pulses prices have come down, wheat and rice prices are stable, edible oil prices are stable, vegetable prices have come down, Cabinet secretary KM Chandrasekhar told reporters on the sidelines of two-day Saarc Workshop on Government Performance Management here. It was basically prices of pulses, sugar and other food items for which the government came under severe attack from the Opposition. For the week ended March 13, food inflation fell to its lowest in four months at 16.22% as the pace of price rise for many food items like potatoes slowed and other vegetables such as onions became cheaper.
