The glitz and glamour attached to the DLF-Indian Premier League (IPL) matches do not seem to deter filmmakers from releasing their films during the April 18-June 1 period, when DLF-IPL matches will take place. Over 10 films are due for release, and filmmakers are confident that the matches will not affect their box-office collections.

Tashan from Yash Raj Films is due for release on April 24. Mahesh Bhatts Jannat is scheduled for release on May 11. Likewise, Ravi Chopras Bhootnath, which stars Amitabh Bachchan, and Rakesh Roshans Krazzy4 are scheduled to be released in May. Citing reasons as to why the T20 matches will not affect film buffs in the ensuing months, Navin Shah, CEO, Integrated P9, says, The film Jannat will release on May 11. Impressive film promos will be telecast on various television channels showing that the film is a better source of entertainment. Despite corporates being associated with the DLF-IPL matches, cricket is more about patriotism and heroism. If its a World Cup, then cricket lovers would want to flock to matches in large numbers.

Sandeep Bhargava, CEO, Studio18 feels one need to wait and watch on how the clash of DLF-IPL match timings and the film releases would pan out. IPL is happening for the first time, unlike sports in the West where the audience support the local teams. This culture is not yet absorbed in India. Every movie-goer may not necessarily be a cricket fan. Multiplexes will certainly not shut during the matches.
