Ficci Putts Honchos In Their Place

Federation of Indian Chamber Of Commerce and Industry (Ficci) is at its sporting best. The industry body is bringing together a clique of high profile personalities such as diplomats, top bureaucrats and corporate honchos to participate in a day and night golf tournament on April 3.

The tournament will be played on an 18 hole game pattern at the DLF Golf Course in Gurgaon (Haryana), in day and night sessions, with the first nine holes to be played in the day session and the rest in the night session. The golfers will be put in groups of four each, so as to finish the game in time.

The tournament, sponsored by Oil and Natural Gas Corporation (ONGC) and Yes Bank, will have more than 100 high profile entries.

Although Ficci has held golf tournaments thrice in the past as well, this year the players are mostly bureaucrats and diplomats and the number of participants is higher.

Theres more coming up from the Ficci stable. The recently appointed Ficci sports committee chairman Kapil Dev is exploring the possibility of promoting other sports including athletics.

A Ficci official said, we are planning to include athletics, but definitely it will not be some of the existing popular sports like cricket, soccer and hockey.

Among the diplomats, high commissioners from Singa-pore, Pakistan and Bangladesh and Japanese and Czech ambassadors will be taking part in the event.

Trai chairman Pradeep Baijal, department of company affairs secretary Vinod Dhall, defence advisor Ferdous Hasan Khan, defence secretary Ajay Prasad, two joint secretaries and a deputy secretary from the ministry of external affairs, secretary, ministry of human resource development Sushil Tripathi are among the various government officials hunting in the woods.

The prominent businessmen ready to swing their clubs include Rana Kapoor (MD and CEO Yes Bank), Sachit Jain (ED Vardhman Spinning), Bharat V Patel (chairman Procter & Gamble India), RK Bhargava (chairman Asian Hotels), YK Modi (Ficci president and chairman YKM Holdings), BH Singhania (VC & MD JK Corporation) and Lalit Suri (CMD Bharat Hotels).

Also, KP Singh, the past president of Assocham and chairman of DLF Universal Limited, is learnt to be taking keen interest in the tournament.
