FCI seeks R85,359 cr for kharif procurement

Food Corporation of India (FCI) has asked for R85,359 crore from the government for taking up forthcoming kharif procurement of grain and clear dues, food minister KV Thomas said in parliament on Monday. He said against the allocation of R47,239.80 crore for 2011-12, actual subsidy requirement for FCI this fiscal would be around R67,742 crore. In July-September quarter, FCI needed about R11,635 crore for payments to be made for procurement of grains.
