A large section of the population falls in the 21-35 years age bracket. There is a need to engage with them and encourage them to be a part of politics, Singh said.
While the party already has a students wing the Chatra Yuva Sangharsh Samiti (CYSS) the youth wing will look to strengthen the organisation with workers at various levels. At a time when the AAP is re-building and strengthening the party structure through Mission Vistaar, the launch of the youth wing will ensure that the party gives special attention to this section.
The organisation will have district presidents, assembly heads, ward level co-ordinators. We also plan to expand the structure to the booth level, Singh said.
The formal launch of the AAP Youth Wing will take place on the birth anniversary of Shaheed Bhagat Singh (September 27). We will hold events, such as blood donation camps, to reach out to the youth, he said.
Following a meeting with AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal, AAP youth leaders said they wanted to focus on issues of unemployment, womens safety to engage with the youth. The youth wing will focus on awareness campaigns for the youth and will lead movements for their empowerment in decision making. The AAP Youth Wing will also strive to channelise youth energy towards positive campaigns, a party statement said.
Talking about its plans to rejig the structure, the party said, The AAP is in the process of forming frontal organisations for all segments of the society. After AAP Ki Mahila Shakti, successfully set-up units at the booth level, the Youth Wing is the second frontal organisation to be created.
