Ex-CSE Chief Bail Plea Rejected, Remand Extended

A court on Tuesday extended till February four the judicial remand of former president of Calcutta Stock Exchange Dinesh Kumar Singhania who is charged with being involved in Rs 24.50 crore cheating case filed by IndusInd bank. Mr Singhania, whose prayer for bail was rejected by the Chief Metropolitan Magistrate SC Misra, is also one of the prime accused in the Rs 120 crore scam at the exchange in March, 2001.

Mr Singhanias counsel said, There is absolutely no substance for charging my client under section 409 of the Indian penal code as he did not attempt to cheat anyone. The CMM fixed January 31 as the next date of hearing to determine whether Mr Singhania could be charged under section 409.
