Enterprise software market grows 16.3% to $2.5 bn in 2010: Gartner

The enterprise software market grew over 16.3% annually to $2.5 billion (around R11,250 crore) in calendar year 2010 as compared to $2.1 billion (R9,450 crore) in 2009, according to a report by IT research firm Gartner. However, the Indian market is just a shade over 1% of the global enterprise software market, which stood at $245 billion in 2010 and grew 8.5% annually. Microsoft, IBM and Oracle form the top three leading vendors in 2010 globally as well as in India. Microsoft remained the industry leader in the Indian enterprise software market, with a market share of 28% and revenues worth $706 million. Its revenues in 2009 stood at $566.5 million. The company's revenues improved with new releases of Windows 7 operating system and Microsoft Office 2010. Microsoft is now emphasising more on enterprise application and infrastructure software programming platforms. IBM continued to remain at the second position with revenue worth $351.1 million and a market share of 13.9%. IBM continues to focus on enterprises and partners. The company expanded aggressively in 2010 into applications segment with a focus on e-commerce. Oracle's growth in 2010 was at a robust pace of 25.2%. Its business grew in business intelligence, security, IT operations and data integration segment.
