A Rs 2,000 crore tele-education programme, Edusat, was launched Wednesday with a pilot project in Karnataka connecting nearly 50 engineering colleges using a transponder of an Indian satellite in orbit.

A precursor to the launch of a dedicated education satellite Edusat (GSAT-3) in June this year, the Rs 90-crore project linking engineering colleges of the Visveswaraiah Technology University will cover colleges affiliated to the YB Chavan State Open University in Maharashtra and Rajiv Gandhi Technical University in Madhya Pradesh.
