Economist Samar Sen Dies At 88

Economist Samar Sen passed away in New Delhi on Wednesday. He was 88. In 1938, he became the first member of the Indian Economic Service (the second one being IG Patel).

Sen was Indias executive director at the World Bank for eight years. Sen was a member of Sarkaria Commission, vice-chairman of the Irrigation Commission and an advisor in the ministry of agriculture and Planning Commission. Sens two sons, Abhijeet and Pronab, are member and advisor respectively at Yojana Bhavan.
