Talk to whom

There are many reasons for the delay in the finalisation of the Doha round of trade talks. But one that has gone unnoticed is the absence of a negotiator from the US on agricultural issues. Drought of options

The government has constituted an EGoM on drought, but a senior officer said Krishi Bhawan has run out of options to present before the ministers to mull over. So the only option left, according to him, is to import the stuff and rush it to the ration shops. That, incidentally, does not need an EGoM level decision.

He told a delegation from abroad that the situation is like the state of things before a wedding. Almost everything looks out of place and there is pandemonium, but it all gets settled once the bridegroom reaches!
