Duncans Tea plans to launch brands with taste of health

Kolkata-based Duncans Tea Ltd, part of the Rs 2,000-crore Duncan-Goenka Group, is planning to come out with a series of products under the theme Taste of Health. The company is working on developing tea, based on several other Ayurvedic products including tulsi and ginger.

Speaking to FE, MC Appaiah, COO, Duncans Tea Ltd, said,We should be coming out with Tulsi Green Tea in the premium category pretty soon. The product is at the research-stage and will take about 2-3 months to develop. The company is already talking to the Tea Board for obtaining the necessary clearances. We hope to hit the market in 3-6 months time.

The company will also soon be introducing Green Tea, an organic variety under the theme Taste of Health. The product has been test-marketed in places like Dehradun, Manali, Bhopal and Indore. The response, so far, has been pretty good and we plan to focus on markets like Hyderabad, Chennai, Bangalore and Coimbatore for this product. Green Tea will be marketed through the special channels like our tieups with BPCL and HPCL, large format stores and other exclusive tieups. The company is also working on coming out with tea, based on few other Ayurvedic products, he added.

Krishnendu Ghosh, head,marketing, Duncans Tea Ltd, said, The sudden spurt in global demand has pushed the price of tea.The challenge for tea companies would be in terms of delivery and quality.
