Still suffering from bad throat, Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee cancelled all his engagements on Monday including a meeting of the Union cabinet for the second straight day, but BJP asked media not to overplay it.

Besides the Cabinet meeting which was to have given approval to the 10th Plan, Mr Vajpayee was to have addressed a function in connection with Valmikis birth anniversary and inaugurate the third world academy of sciences.

A spokesman of the Prime Ministers Office said Mr Vajpayees health was all right while the BJP spokesman Arun Jaitley dismissed some media reports in this regard as exaggerated and that he was sufferring from a marginal problem of sore throat.

Media has to introspect on the exaggerated news coverage. There is not much of a news about a marginal problem. We should not see much into it, Mr Jaitley said.

Prime Ministers health is all right. He is clearing files, the spokesman said. Mr Vajpayee cancelled a scheduled press conference in Lucknow on Sunday citing throat problem and cut short his visit and returned to the Capital.

Mr Vajpayees functions on Monday would have involved lot of talking causing strain to his throat and therefore he cancelled them on medical advice, the spokesman said. The spokesman also rejected suggestions that his abrupt return to Delhi on Sunday may have something to do with his refusal to meet some disgruntled BJP MLAs in Lucknow.

It is not correct to say this. The Prime Minister does not avoid meeting anybody, the spokesman said.
