Demand for fertilisers to rise 4%

The countrys fertiliser demand is estimated to be 4% higher at 28.8 million tonne in the ensuing kharif season starting June, as against 27.7 million tonne in the year-ago period. Requirement of urea, DAP, MOP and complex fertilisers for the coming Kharif 2011 season has been assessed at 14.21, 7.13, 2.25 and 5.2 million tonne, respectively, a senior agriculture ministry official said. The requirement of single super phosphate is estimated to be 2.53 million tonne.
