Cracking the whip on private television channels for misusing Doordarshan footage of the ongoing one-day cricket series, Prasar Bharati on Sunday said it would hereafter claim bills and sue the channels for damages if the time exceeds the permissible limits.

We have exclusive rights to broadcast 12 one-day matches with Sri Lanka and South Africa. Private channels using our footage beyond two minutes per day shall have to cough up the amount, Prasar Bharati CEO KS Sarma told reporters here. Giving details of the channels overusing footage of the Nagpur match, he said, Tam media research was given the contract to find out the exact time each channel had taken showing DD footage.

As many as 13 private channels have used DD signals for a period ranging from 70 minutes to 20 seconds.
