Crude oil imports rise 5% in 04-05

Indias crude oil imports have risen 5% to 95.315 million tonne (mt) in 2004-05 fiscal even as domestic production rose marginally to 34.04 mt.

Total domestic production of crude oil during 2004-05 was 34.05 mt as against 33.37 mt in the previous financial year, petroleum minister Mani Shankar Aiyar told Rajya Sabha on Tuesday.

Crude oil imports rose from just over 90 mt in 2003-04 to 95.314 mt in 2004-05.

Mr Aiyar said petroleum product import rose 5% to 7.701 mt in April-February when compared with 7.363 mt products imported in the same period the previous fiscal.

While 12.927 mt of petroleum products were exported during the first 11 months of 2003-04, the export during the same period of 2004-05 amounted to 16.139 mt, he said.
