I don?t agree with your editorial (?Exempt none?, May 1) which says that the Union finance minister has largely been successful in keeping tax exemption lobbyists at bay while revising the Finance Bill, 2008. There are two types of industry lobbies in the country: one type belongs to the creamy layer of industrialists and the other to the non-creamy layer that apparently gets no benefits. Lobbyists belonging to the creamy layer have got tax holiday extension for refineries and also an extension of the STPI tax holiday by a year. After the acceptance of these two demands, what more remains to be done for the creamy layer?

True Gandhian
In Nirmala Deshpande?s death, we have lost another voice that spoke for compassion and non-violence. Such true Gandhians are hard to find in today?s India.
