CPI(M) leader B Chowdhary passes away

CPI(M) MP Bikash Chowdhary died at RML hospital following a massive heart attack. He was 73. Lok Sabha was adjourned for the day on Monday following his death.

Chowdhary was elected to the Lok Sabha thrice from the Asansol constituency. He was also a member of West Bengal legislative assembly for four terms between 1966 and 1996.

Chowdhary was associated with coal workers movement in coal rich places like Asansol and Raniganj for more than 30 years. He was also a state committee member of West Bengal CPI(M).

The Prime Minister, CPI leaders along with leaders of other political parties payed him homage. His body was taken to Kolkata.
