Union commerce ministrys latest move to give no representations to western region, mainly Gujarat and Maharashtra, in the recently reconstituted governing body of Tea Board of India (TBI) has got the hackles up of the trader community associated with tea retailing and distribution community in Gujarat.

Speaking to FE, Chetan Patel, president of Gujarat Tea Traders Association, said that Tea Board of India has done injustice to Gujarat and Maharashtra by not giving representation to the western region in its board despite the fact that western region of the country is one of the largest consumer of tea.

Informing that recently TBI reconstituted its governing body, Patel said that the board should have given representation to Gujarat or Maharashtra.

However, commerce ministry has not given any representation to tea traders from these two neighbouring states of western India, which has led to feeling of dissatisfaction and unrest among tea traders in this region.
