The Congress threat came even as the UP chief minister launched a fresh tirade in Lucknow against Gandhi, accusing her of enacting a drama of going to jail and worrying only about Rae Bareli and Amethi and not the rest of UP. Coming out with a strong rebuke, the Congress maintained that Maya would end up paying a high price for the intransigence she was engaging in against the Congress and the UPA-led government at the Centre.
Charging Mayawatis recent actions to go on the offensive were out of fear, revenge and to hide her own corruption, the Congress said it would not be a mute bystander and would come up with its own political responses. If she continues to persist with her political vendetta, she will find it difficult to do her Bharat bhraman, AICC spokesman Manish Tiwari said. The BSP has already said it will contest assembly polls in all five states.
Making a case against Mayawatis anti-development stance, the Congress contended that she had refused to allot land for four major projects in Amethi and Rae Bareli. Tiwari also reeled out statistics, claiming that per capita income of UP was 40% than the Indian average, life expectancy of women had declined to 55 years and atrocities against Dalits were on the rise. She should forget dreaming about becoming PM and instead focus on doing what the people have mandated her to do Tiwari said.
