The government has asked the department of commerce to implement an ambitious national e-governance plan within a stipulated time frame across a spectrum of organisations.

The department will involve the directorate general of supplies and disposals for developing the e-governance modules, minister of state for commerce Jairam Ramesh said on Wednesday.

We have made a beginning and now we have to get people working on implementing the e-governance, he said at a seminar, organised by the DGS&D. He said the DGS&D, the Central procurement agency of the government, had already introduced the system of e-procurement, including electronic tendering, seven months ago.
