The Planning Commission needs to involve the cooperative sector while drafting five-year plans. If the cooperative sector is not involved in the process it would be a great injustice to the people and the economy, said Maharashtra chief minister Vilasrao Deshmukh.

Inaugurating the 52nd All India Cooperative Week celebrations in the Capital, Mr Deshmukh, recalled that in earlier times, the Plan documents contained a separate chapter on cooperatives.

He said that cooperatives can compete with multinationals on an equal footing, and they must not have any fear in this respect. If cooperatives adopt the right technology and mobilise their workers, they can emerge as winners, Mr Deshmukhsaid.
