CMs meet on Mullaperiyar unlikely to resolve issue

No major decision is expected from the Kerala and Tamil Nadu chief ministers meeting over the Mullapperiyar issueon Wednesday as both states are adamant on their stands.

However, sources on both sides clarified that a decision to continue deliberations will be taken. This is seen as a positive signal that the ice is melting.

The meeting is to be chaired by water resource minister Saifuddin Soz. Kerala will raise the state all-party meets decision that building another dam is the only way out. Tamil Nadu will ask for implementation of the Supreme Courts direction that the height of the dam can be increased.
