There is no move to close the Uttarpara unit of Hindustan Motors, which has been hit by the inter-union rivalry since March 13.

The CK Birla group company's general manager (corporate communications), Soni Shrivastava, told reporters here that the management has no intention to close down the plant. In fact, plans have been drawn up for its revival, she said.

Soni said that the company had to move the Calcutta High Court as things were going out of control.

The official said the court directed the police to restore normalcy and allow easy exit and entry of workers not joining the agitation led by the Sangrami Shramik Karmachari Union (SSKU).

Shrivastava said that situation had improved and 1500 workers turned up for work Thursday. The company has 4000-strong workforce.

She said that the management was keen to sit at the negotiating table with the five registered trade unions to discuss their demands only after normalcy was restored in the factory. Following the court order yesterday, the police were posted near the factory premises.
