The main objective of FPS is to promote export of products which have high export intensity and employment potential. However, only 97 products out of 653 which accounts for only 15% of T&C sector have been selected under the Focus Product Scheme, said DK Nair, secretary general, CITI.
SITI chairman SV Arumugam said, CITI is of the view that aximum products from T&C sector could benefit by FPS and would lead to increase in export share of Indian goods in global merchandise trade.
A textile ministry official said there are products from T&C sector that are included under Market-Linked Focus Product Scrip (MLFPS) which is meant to be an additional category under FPS where exports of products that have high export potential and are not classified under FPS are being incentivised.
