In an effort to woo IT bigwigs to Gujarat, chief minister Narendra Modi is visiting Bangalore.

Grapevine has it that the Gujarat chief minister is trying to change his old image and is portraying himself as a CEO like his counterpart from Andhra Pradesh, Chandrababu Naidu.

During his visit to Bangalore, Mr Modi is expected to hold talks with state government officials and top level executives from IT firms to attract investments to strife-torn Gujarat.

The promoters of Chennai-based software firm, SSI Ltd, seem to do doing precisely that. Even as the company is in the process of repositioning itself as a pure play service provider after it hived off its education business to Aptech, the promoters are on a shopping spree for real estate.

They were forerunners in the race for buying the real estate assets of Binny Ltd and are now the only qualified bidders for SSIs Chennai development centre valued at a cool Rs 97 crore.

We have bought several real estate properties in and around Chennai. Some are reported in the papers and some are not, says Kalpathi S Suresh, chairman and CEO, SSI Ltd.

We expect to profit from the real estate boom to be driven by the IT, ITES and BPO segments in the next few years. Chennai is fast emerging as the hot destination for these sectors the CEO added.
