To meet the foodgrain demand in flood-hit Jammu and Kashmir, the Centre has asked Food Corporation of India (FCI) to release wheat and rice immediately to the state government without insisting on advance payment.

As per the norm, the foodgrain for natural calamity relief is made available at the minimum support price (MSP) price to a state after reports by the Centres inter-ministerial teams.

It may be ensured that release of foodgrain is not held up for any technical formality and advance payment of release of stocks need not be insisted upon for flood relief purpose, a communication from FCI to its officers stationed at Jammu and Kashmir has stated.

The communication also noted that the Jammu and Kashmir government must ensure that the payment for foodgrain supply is made to FCI within two or three weeks of release of stocks.
