A paper for implementing the Rs 500-crore tourism development fund announced by the Prime Minister earlier this year has been prepared and is likely to be placed before the Cabinet this week.

According to sources, disbursement of the fund will begin soon after the proposal gets clearance. Half of the fund will be utilised for bridging minor gaps in infrastructure at the local level.

The fund will focus on infrastructure creation stressing on public-private partnership. To attract private investment, the Planning Commission had advised the tourism ministry to subsidise long gestation investments.
