In a strategic move, the Pune-based Training & Advanced Studies in Management And Communications Ltd (Tasmac) is planning to extend its operations by setting up business schools in Bangalore and Kolkata soon. Says Tasmac chairman and managing director Giri Dua: There are two main objectives behind the move. One, we are running out of space at our existing Pune business school institute. Second, we want to provide an alternative to our management students who currently have no other option but to travel to Pune.

In addition, Tasmac is also planning to include a new Masters Degree in Law, within a year. At present, Tasmacs courses include, MBA, MSc in Information Systems, and BA (Hons) in Business Administration Degree Programmes validated by and leading to the award of degrees by the University of Wales, he says.

In order to upgrade the standard of higher education at Tasmac, the institute is currently in talks with one of the premier UK-based management institutes to enter into a tie-up, adds Mr Dua. However, Mr Dua refused to divulge further details on the UK-based company.

We have also subscribed to the Emerald Online Website whereby our management students can refer to around 160 volumes of management books, adds Mr Dua.

Incidentally, Tasmac is now the first and the only institute outside the UK and Europe to be recognised and accredited by the prestigious British Accreditation Council for Independent Further and Higher Education (BAC).

The objective behind this move is to improve and enhance the standards of higher educational institutions by the establishment of a system of accreditation, says Mr Dua.
