In cost and connectivity, Kerala IT companies have a bonanza in store, thanks to BSNLs expansion plans in the state. Apart from quadrupling the Internet bandwidth in the national backbone, BSNL has in pipeline a slew of high-connectivity-at-lower-cost amenities for its Kerala circle.

This includes MLLN (Managed Leased Line Net Work), DIAS (Direct Internet Access System) and OF Overlay Access network, according to BSNL Kerala circle chief general manager PP Ramachandran.

A 120-line DIAS, which simultaneously gives Internet and telephone facilities, will be set up from Kochi to be later extended to other Kerala cities, he told reporters, on Tuesday.

The price fixed per corporate connection for DIAS is Rs 1,800 per month. However, this is likely to be revised to Rs 1,000 per connection per month, Mr Ramachandran said.

Just as the bandwidth across the country will soon be augmented from 8.5 mpbs to 34 mpbs, BSNL Kerala will soon commission MLLN which will enable faster provision of leased lines with bandwidth ranging from 64 kbps to 2 Mbps. Further, the bandwidth can be dynamically controlled and the duration can be pre-decided through service-level agreements.

OF Access network has been planned in Kochi to cater to the higher bandwidth requirements of commercially important customers.
