Brijesh Kumar is new telecom secretary

In a top-level reshuffle of the bureaucracy, VK Duggal was on Wednesday appointed the Union home secretary and information technology secretary Brijesh Kumar given additional charge as telecommunication secretary.

Mr Duggal, an IAS officer of 1968 batch from Union Territory cadre, takes over the key post from Dhirendra Singh who retires Thursday, an official spokesman said.

Hari Narayan, an 1970 batch IAS officer from Andhra Pradesh, takes over as water resources secretary.

Brijesh Kumar, a 1968 batch IAS officer from Uttar Pradesh, has been given the additional charge of the department of telecommunication as its incumbent secretary Nripendra Mishra retires Thursday.

Mr Kumar has also been given the full charge as chairman of Telecom Commission.
