The sixth pay panel?s recommendation of three national holidays, if implemented, could be a signal step that will help government staff to break out of their holiday culture. Every 10 years, pay panels recommend a reduction in the number of public holidays, but the Centre shoots down the proposal. Let this proposal be enshrined in the Constitution by an amendment, so that future governments will not tamper with it to gain political and sectarian favours.
