The Bombay high court has adjourned the hearing of NTPCs petition against Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL) for unilateral amendment of the gas sale purchase agreement (GSPA) to the end of September. The court was to hear the matter on August 29.

The high court on July 17 accepted a plea, jointly made by both companies, for adjournment and fixed August 29 as the date for final hearing.

This decision comes at a time when the prime ministers office intervened, asking NTPC to find a solution. NTPC also recently made a presentation to the power ministry seeking its guidance.

NTPC has already ruled out re-tendering for the gas required for its expansion of the Kawas and Gandhar projects in Gujarat. It said it was prepared for a protrac ted legal battle.
