Blue Star is currently in talks with consultants Hewitt Associates to implement a new competency model for developing and upgrading managerial skills, Blue Star Ltd vice-president (HR & quality) Ranajit Majumdar told FE.
In the first phase, we will cover 75 managers through the assessment centres, identify their current competency levels and work out their development plans. In the second phase, we plan to use this model for recruitment purposes, as well, he added.
The company is also planning to strongly focus on the leadership development programme (LDP). As part of the programme, the company will identify fast-track managers and give them special inputs, informed Mr Majumdar. For example, we have recently conducted a 10-day customised programme at IIM-Ahmedabad for fast-track managers, specially designed for Blue Star, he added.
Apart from this, the managers identified for LDP are part of the corporate task force for various programmesknowledge management system, bond implementation and business re-engineering process. The entire idea is to create employee delight by providing opportunities to talented managers, he said.
Blue Star has also recently conducted an employee satisfaction survey (ESS) to identify the satisfaction level of employees, their aspirations and areas of improvement. The survey has revealed that employees wanted advanced information on training. They also expressed the need to introduce certain welfare schemes such as emergency medical facilities, educational assistance and social programmes, informed Mr Majumdar.
Blue Star is also examining the possibilities of introducing private life insurance coverage for its employees in the near future. For this, the company is currently in talks with various private life insurance companies, he added.
Blue Star recognises the importance of HR management in the value chain and believes that world-class employee experience is important for delivering world-class customer experience, concluded Mr Majumdar.
