Even as the Veer Savarkar controversy rages on, the BJP claims to have dug up information about the pro-China views of petroleum and natural gas minister Mani Shankar Aiyar. Mr Aiyar allegedly aired these views during and before the 1960 India-China war.

Speaking to FE, a senior BJP leader said, We know that Aiyars world view in the early 1960s was in consonance with that of many communists. These communists were people who saw India, rather than China, as the aggressor in the 1962 war. Aiyar, like these communists, held pro-China and anti-India views.

According to the BJP leader, We have a lot of ammunition against Aiyer. We will, however, stagger its use.

Elaborating on the anti-Aiyer strategy, another BJP leader said, We will wait for the ministers response. Let the situation unfold itself. Our goal is to inflict maximum damage to the government. We have already charged its ministers as tainted and with criminal antecedents. Now, we will show their ministers have also held traitorous views.

BJP leaders said that they would also raise the issue of Mr Aiyars entry into the Indian Foreign Service (IFS). Since he held anti-India and pro-China views, the dossier on him should have stopped him becoming a diplomat.

But that didnt happen and he became and an IFS officer. Some BJP members are also toying with the idea of asking such a question in Parliament.
