At the recently concluded Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, BSP supremo Mayawatis political crafts proved all conventions wrong. Contrary to common belief, both Dalits and Brahmins voted for her party. Taking cue from the BSP experiment, at least it seems, the BJP is planning to launch an ambitious programme to bring in Muslims into its fold.

While announcing the partys agenda, BJPs minority cell president and Lok Sabha MP from Bhagalpur, Sahnawaz Hussain, who has been entrusted with the task of Muslim Jodo campaign, said, Minorities, particularly Muslims, are important for us. Its only because of the misinformation spread by the so-called secular political formations that they misunderstand us.

As per the programme, the BJP will go on an overdrive to increase primary membership of the Muslims to the party. From villages to the district level, the party will constitute minority morchas. We will try our best to correct their misunderstanding, Hussain said.

Lambasting the secular political forces in the country, he said, neither of these political parties ever given important leadership positions to the Muslims. The situation in the country is quite piquant, where only Sonia Gandhi or Mulayam Singh Yadav or Lalu Prasad becomes a leader of the Muslims. Muslims do not even hold important leadership positions in their parties, he said.

Boasting the partys commitment, Hussain said, Its only the BJP which has made an MP and a former Cabinet minister the minority morcha president and apart from me Mukhtar Bhai (Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi) is also there who calls shots in the party at a fairly higher level.

Hussain said, in the next two years, the party is going to have 28 state and 5 regional conventions and in between the party would organise a national convention for the minorities. He also announced the names of his new team in which, except for Muslims and Christians, all other minority groups have been ignored.
