As the BJP?s national executive meets for a two-day session begins in Patna fromSaturday, the rumblings in the party are arising. Personality clashes, the unease over the Jharkhand fiasco and the increasing divergence of views on critical issues like the caste-based census are set to find a reflection in the meet. However, the UPA government failures and working out of strategies to corner it would take a front seat.
The meet will come up with three resolutions attacking the Congress-led government on the Maoist front, Centre-state relations and its ?dismal performance? in the first year. But, amid sharpening of knives against the ruling front, all indications are that some of the recent decisions of the leadership?like selection of candidates for the Rajya Sabha and appointment of certain state presidents and its handling of the Jharkhand?would cast it shadow.
The selection of Rajya Sabha candidates?especially Ram Jethmalani?have angered many. Those close to party chief Nitin Gadkari point out it was done at the behest of LK Advani and Narendra Modi. But several leaders from Rajasthan are not impressed. Voices of resentment are heard in Madhya Pradesh as well over the appointment Prabhat Jha as state chief. The discontent over selection of office bearers is continuing. On the issue of caste-based census, a section of the leaders are seeking a review of the party line after RSS spoke against it.
Gadkari is concerned about the ego-driven clashes in the party and he has spoken his mind on more than one occasion. Pointing to Jethmalani?s nomination, sources said Advani, who had made way for the younger generation, was reasserting himself lately which could be worrying for the new BJP chief.
The national executive comes against the backdrop of such complexities.
