BJP flays employment guarantee Bill

Attacking the UPA governments proposed Employment Guarantee Bill, the BJP said that with the unemployment rate going up, the Bill does not provide solutions to the problem.

Speaking to mediapersons here on Friday, party spokesman VK Malhotra said, The Bill provides assured employment to only one member of a family and that too only for 100 days in a year. Why not assure employment to members in a family and for more days

The Presidents speech, he said, did not contain any positive aspect as the UPA government did not have any achievement worth mentioning in its nine-month rule at the Centre.

The only work that the government has done is to remove Governors, change officials and textbooks, he said.

Taking a dig at the Left parties for constantly opposing the government policies like 100% FDI in retail, construction etc, through the media, he said that the Left is not a part of the Opposition as they are supporting the government from outside, adding that if the Left was so opposed to the UPAs policies, they should voice their opposition by voting against the government.

Also, the only aim of the UPAs common minimum programme was to condemn the BJP, he claimed.

On the India-Pakistan talks, Mr Malhotra flayed the government for not having mentioned anything on stopping cross-border terrorism in the joint statement. He reiterated the BJPs apprehension of the travel without passports for the Srinagar-Muzzafarabad bus service causing grave security concerns. He said the service will only provide a safe transit for the ultras and anti-national elements.

On the Patents Bill, he said that the BJP was for a national debate on the subject, which should later be examined by a parliamentary standing committee. He, however, was caught on the wrong foot when he was reminded that the original Patents Bill was drafted by the BJP-led NDA government.
